Insects challenge the human designations, if not the concept, of beauty. They will alight on garbage and feces to nourish themselves, and those are their more banal bad habits (if I may anthropomorphize for a moment). Of course, they also boast some of the most beautiful colors and unique forms on the planet. This damselfly (Suborder Zygoptera) with its dirty bulldoggy snout is a unique splinter of beautiful, blue life; it is possibly a “bluet” damselfly which come in two genuses and multiple species in North America.
