A Fly and Its Lemonade

syrphid fly

Kind of cool, kind of cloudy, thinking of sunnier days. Here’s an imperfect photo from a ways back. The hover fly is feeding on a parsley flower. The original photo was almost prohibitively underexposed; brightening up put a lot of noise in it, so the noise/sharpness trade-off was a problem. I don’t really have a scientific way of enhancing a photo like this. I typically use the wavelet sharpen and wavelet denoise filters in GIMP, and came to use those filters mainly because I liked the look of the results. I’m still working my way through the digital photography forest. Or parsley patch, as it were.
