I believe this is an Eastern Pondhawk, and it sure looks like it needs to wipe moth scales from its mouth and snout. This was one of the more cooperative dragonflies I have come across in some time. Over and over, it returned to the same dead leaf on the ground while I sat by, only a short distance away. Unfortunately in this shot, I didn’t quite have the depth of field to get any sharpness in its eyes. But I liked the messy face and the head tilt.
I hope you at least gave him a wet-nap
I didn’t want to ruin his joy.
