Moody and Elegant

face of an Elegant Crab Spider (Xysticus elegans)

A crab spidery face: a male Elegant Crab Spider, Xysticus elegans, looks into the camera with the characteristic eye arrangement of family Thomisidae.

The best I could do with the underexposed shots of a male Elegant Crab Spider, were these somewhat dark, somewhat moody renditions. I like the face shot best; it appears to have some slight motion blur in it, which is a little disconcerting perhaps, but I like the overall effect.

Elegant Crab Spider (Xysticus elegans) dorsal view

A male Elegant Crab Spider, Xysticus elegans, stretches out its forelegs in typical crab spider, predator-in-waiting fashion. Naturally I did everything I could to cut off the rightside forelegs.
