Dragonflies often like high perches, but they can also be found in the grass.

The specular highlights are a tad overpowering here, but this dragonfly portrait is one of my personal favorites. I like the subtle colors of the eyes, and the background colors are like a sky with a setting sun – though in reality they are the colors of the ground as captured through the wings of the dragon. The blurred blade of grass may be off-putting to some viewers, to which I can’t argue, but it doesn’t bother me. I will say it is a case where a focus stack likely would have worked very well.
