Lines in the Face

portrait of a carpenter ant

An ant may look uniform at a glance, but a closer look reveals texture and detail.

This ant seems to have hidden, mysterious potential once you discover all the details on what might otherwise appear uniform and featureless to the naked eye. Somewhat surprisingly I haven’t noticed a lot of ants, but everything is behind schedule about a month, or so it seems. This one was stationary, a less than usual occurrence, so I took the opportunity to get very close (full height on this image; cropped width-wise to 8×10).
