Small But Standing Tall

longlegged fly on wood grain

A long-legged fly stands tall.

Relatively speaking, anyway. Long-legged flies are pretty neat; this type (sorry no genus or species at the moment) is a little different from some of the others. While most seems to stand with their bodies well-elevated above whatever substrate they land on, these flies hold themselves upright, almost perpendicular as opposed to parallel, to the ground beneath their feet. The upright kind also are less skittish in my personal experience. Not as shiny and colorful, but I guess not everyone can have it all.
