This broad-headed bug, genus Alydus, had the (near) complete black costume of a ninja but the slow, deliberate movements didn’t quite match up.

This broad-headed bug had quite the sharp, black look when I found it, but it had slow, wary movements (well until the end when it flew off).

A couple disclaimers the middle part of the wings were actually a lighter color and/or semi-transparent; that may not be obvious in the monochrome rendering. Also I think this is Alydus eurinus, but I’m not completely confident in that.
