portrait of horse fly with striped colorful eyes

The colorful, striped eyes of a horse fly aren’t the only sharp things that it sports: the triangular mouthparts are used to incise the skin of animals (like people!) so the fly may have a blood meal.

The lights are one of the things I enjoy most about the holiday season; given the atmosphere permeating darkness, they are both lovely and necessary. One might even say, artful.
