Many insects are predators, but they can still go for a simple drink when they’re thirsty. This damsel bug was quite conspicuous on this very detailed wild flower while it sucked up some nectar. A little more surprising (to me) is when another bug crawls right over a predator. (I’m thinking of one ambush bug in particular and the plant bug nymph crawling over it that I shot a while back; can’t remember if I’ve posted that one before.) I’d also add, this is another case where the background greatly enhances the dorsal perspective on an insect.
I’ve had some fun trying to key some of these out.
I had quite a time getting it down to the family level the first time, but then it was a little bit of Eureka! Always nice to figure it out.
