Ah I remember these beetles from childhood, when I used to live in Asia. We called them “nodding bug”, we used to catch them and made them “nod” or “click”, and they used to expel a little brown liquid, the old ladies used to tell us that it means that it’s going to rain. It usually did, but then again, it rained all the time in summers…
Sounds like our winter and snow (well minus the bugs. and yes it snowed here yesterday, the first day of spring). :o)
Interestingly (to me anyway) I did not play with insects as a child (being too afraid of them after stepping on a bee’s nest), but I’m making up for lost time now!
Ah I’ve been the opposite, as a child I had a lot of fun playing with bugs, catching cicada larvae and watch them hatch, testing my ninja skills by snatching snoozing dragonflies off of leaves etc…. but now I have so few opportunities to find them, feel rather deprived!
Nice detail.
Thanks!
