Some of the smallest of dragonflies you’re likely to encounter in the North America, this eastern amberwing was found along with some other cohorts sunning up in the infield grass of an elementary school’s baseball field. Even though they’re very small the lovely amber- and black-stained wings weren’t compact enough to fit into the shot.
Very nice. I didn’t know there were dragonflies that small.
Yes, I was pretty surprised myself the first time I saw one. I think there are one or two other amberwing species in the US, that are similar to this one.
