Paper wasp on a wild flower.

There’s something cold — those sleek, angular features — and hot — the threat of the stinger — that make a wasp like this a beautiful contradiction. Away from their nests (and these particular wasps are relatively tolerant even “at home”), they’re not much of a threat of course.
