Unforeseen Dreams

Fire bush buds with six-spotted orbweaver...and possibly a micro moth.

Fire bush buds with six-spotted orbweaver…and possibly a micro moth.

And so the dreams, or the buds as they were, come to an end. At least the ones in this series of photographs. I didn’t want to stretch it out so far before the actual coming of Spring, but so it goes.

I hope you’ll notice the small spider at the lower right corner. When I was shooting the photograph, I had no idea it was there; only later during processing did I realize, I wasn’t so alone with the not yet fiery buds. It truly is hard to say what you’ll find, even after you’ve stopped looking. And so, it was, with so much time passed, that I looked at this image again in earnest to share it here on WP. With only the smallest surprise, I noticed the little sliver of mottled debris below the bud at the top left. The resolution of this image isn’t enough to tell for sure, but it appears as though it may be a micro moth. Wonders will never cease, and, if you’ll forgive me the wordplay, bugs are truly ceaseless wonders. I write this is in February, but Spring arrives soon, hopefully freed of the vestments of Winter, but regardless: welcome, dear Spring, and welcome, old and new friends.

  1. I like the way this one juts out into the frame. I noticed the spider right away but would have never seen the moth without you mentioning it.

    1. Just to stress I think it *may* be a moth…I guess I’m having more doubts looking at it again a few weeks later. Speaking of doubts a few weeks later, we’re in the process of getting another 10 plus inches of snow dumped on us (and we’re getting the light stuff in western mass). So much for shedding the vestments of winter! Lol

      1. I’m not a winter person so that would really put me over the edge. I guess I should stop complaining about our 30 and 40 degree weather with the rain/snow mix … but I won’t. :) Stay safe and warm.
