These click beetles are perennial visitors/inhabitants of the yard. They are kind of understated with the brown, fuzzy, flat-toned backside, and somehow I feel like all my (decent) pictures of them come out the same: from the side, beetle seated/standing (depending how you want to look at it) at a rough 45˚ angle, and the antennae held up in a very dignified if also perhaps banal way. Maybe it’s a loophole in the photographic-entomological continuum, and one day I’ll be able to utilize it for the good of all photographs and insects everywhere. (Black and white version below.
