
These click beetles are perennial visitors/inhabitants of the yard. They are kind of understated with the brown, fuzzy, flat-toned backside, and somehow I feel like all my (decent) pictures of them come out the same: from the side, beetle seated/standing (depending how you want to look at it) at a rough 45˚ angle, and the antennae held up in a very dignified if also perhaps banal way. Maybe it’s a loophole in the photographic-entomological continuum, and one day I’ll be able to utilize it for the good of all photographs and insects everywhere. (Black and white version below. This is by far my favorite image of a click beetle.
