My dog’s flea and tick preventative had been applied only a couple days earlier so I’m not sure an alcohol bath was necessary, but when I was pulling off (with tweezers) upward of 17 American dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis) off my chocolate lab’s lower legs, I didn’t want to mess around. Fortunately, I didn’t have to worry about it much; most of them seemed dead before I removed them. So while not a great scenario, the hideous chemicals did their job.
(I was going to add a short note about how dog ticks are “better” than deer ticks because they don’t carry Lyme disease, but it seems like every tick carries a special prize (read: disease) of at least one kind and usually more. There are no tick heroes. (Sorry, The Tick, it’s true.) So again, thankfully the preventative did its job.)
Anyway, don’t forget the little villains if you’re out there! (Closer view below/)
