Ebony Jewelwings are tough customers when it comes to getting super close. This photo is from a series from way back, of which I posted another shot in a place and time far away. Well, not really. You can see the other photo here and also read a rather wordy account (by my current posting standards) of what a pain in the butt it is to get a shot like this.

I’d like to think my photo-editing skills have improved since then, but you never know. Apart from actually capturing the images, the main challenge in these shots was reducing or eliminating the glare from the flash. I think I did a slightly better job here, but my process opened the image up to more noise which made sharpening more difficult. Good thing I don’t sharpen too much. Anyway! It’s still hard to beat those big eyes. Stay shiny.
