Portait of female Blue Dasher dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis).

Big mood? Maybe, but I forgot/procrastinated out of posting last week, so I thought I’d better go full bug to get this week started. Time to stare another one down.

  1. Nice shot! I’m surprised he stayed around long enough for the shot with you being up so close and in his “face” like that.

    1. Thanks, David. In my experience, the blue dashers are the easiest to get these types of shots. They will fly off, often several times but they return to the same perch. This one is a female, with the red and grey eyes; they can be greener, like males I believe, but I think that’s when they’re newly emerged. (Think they’re called “teneral” at that point, sort of an immature stage but not really.)
